“A Prayer to Jesus, 9-10-20,” by Andrew J. Schatkin
Dear Christ Jesus, many people have asked me, and I suppose it is always the eternal question, ‘why does god the eternal god who died for all the sins of mankind allow evil conduct by not stopping it and not preventing it from happening? There have been six genocides in the last 100 years where millions have been killed, tortured, and suffered greatly at the hands of their fellow human beings. Millions died in the Holocaust; many in Rwanda; many died at the hands of PolPot; many died in the Chinese and Russian Revolutions; and many Christians have died in the current worldwide persecutions. Why does god allow this carnage and suffering to occur? The answer must and will always be that god gives his creation and creatures freedom and free will to lead their lives as they wish. He wants relationships of love with all of humanity. He created and destined them for eternal life with all the company of heaven angels and archangels. He wants to share the joy of heaven with all his creation, but it must be in love and love is only possible when freely and mutually given. He permits evil because he does not want robots or robotic relationships. It is only in freedom that any relationship is possible. Evil is permitted because god wishes all men and women to approach him in love and that this relationship be voluntary and an act of free will. Evil is allowed not because god wants it or does not seek to stop it and so allows it in a sense, but evil and wickedness are the product of a free and voluntary relationship based on love god and man sharing love in eternity forever and ever world without end.
Dear Jesus, guide us to make the choice of love with you and not choose sin and evil which fills and permeates this world.
