“A Prayer to Jesus, 8-4-20,” by Andrew J. Schatkin
My dear friends, thinkers, faithful Christians and you of all faiths, I pray now to Jesus the living and only god. Jesus, you have told us in the gospels that you can and could forgive sins. The Pharisees said this was blasphemy and this led to your death on the cross; it led to your crucifixion because only god can forgive sins and you in this statement made a claim to be god and to divinity. Many times in the gospels, you predicted your death and resurrection. You told the disciples in the great commission to raise the dead. You made many times unequivocal claims to be god and for the world this exclusive and only claim to be god and to a divine nature is a scandal which the world in many instances and places cannot stand or abide. The world of this age wants to hear all religions are the same and lead to the same god and that all peoples and nations are good and share the same god. You claim otherwise and say in John 3:16 that you are the way, the truth, and the life, and no man or woman comes to the father but by you. Your claim to exclusivity is an annoyance and irritation to other people in our society who are possibly influenced by politics believe that in a democratic society all people having an equal voting right means all ideas, opinions and religious systems are equally valid. Jesus, your claim to be the only actual and true god is a vast scandal and annoyance to many who dislike being told there is some sort of objective truth. In Exodus, you stated that there is only one god and we can have been other gods before you and that we can have no graven images of you who are a spirit.
Jesus, we pray to you as god and god alone. The world may hate and persecute us for worshiping you as god, but that is your message and that is your command. We pray to you Jesus as god and divine and for no other reason.
