“A Prayer to Jesus, 7-21-20,” by Andrew J. Schatkin
Dear Jesus: You are the author and finisher of our race and the savior of all who come to know you and experience your love and concern. Dear Jesus, do not allow us to be fooled by false claims of how we may find and come to know you as the true god. You have told us that in your holy word we can find you in your words and sayings in the he gospels and the Epistles of St. Paul.
This claim of how to come to find and know you and understand you cannot be contradicted, cannot by some who say they can by their own efforts at some sort of spirituality and meditation find god. It is, and you have made this clear to many generations, your holy word that the true god and his divine claim can be found and grasped. Do not let us be misled by the claim of other gods when in the dialog in the first instance you made clear without equivocation that we are to have no other gods before you and Jesus made that same claim of divinity and to be the true god and in him alone can we come to know who the true god is as stated by Christ and in the Decalogue in the first commandment. Dear Jesus, teach us that it is through your word and in holy scripture that we can come to know the true god and who he is and his commands and requirements and tells us about his nature. Dear Jesus, do not let us be misled to think we can find you in our own thoughts and in what others may say about who you are. Tell us to know that we must and can only truly know you read, reread and meditate on your word day and night without ceasing.
