“A Prayer to Jesus about Graven Images, 6-25-20,” by Andrew J. Schatkin
Jesus and the father and holy spirit the holy trinity, you have from the beginning told us and instructed us that we are to make no graven images and that you are a spirit and that we are to worship the true spirit and immaterial god and not idols of stone and material images of the true and spiritual god of Mount Sinai and at the end, the god of the agony at gethsemane and the god of the cross, yet we cling to materialism and our material goods.
We do not worship stone idols but worship the amount of money we possess; our new and late model car; our new smart phone; and our new suit new dress; and new designer shoes and sneakers. These are for many the idols that they worship and possess. Some worship the latest rock star or the latest rock music, yet Lord, make us know and understand that they are false idols taking us away from the true god and we pray that you will not allow or permit these new more modern stone idols become the god and gods we worship.
Jesus, show us how we can cast of these graven images and know your commands to live by the spirit and not by someone’s new clothes or their looks. Bring us each day to the truth of your spirit knowing how these modern images fool and befuddle us and capture our minds and souls. Lord Jesus, make us know the truth of the lies of materialism and free us from the false grip of material values directing us to the god who commands us to worship not material idols but to worship him in spirit and truth. Know our souls and transform us into the new spiritual image found only in Christ.
